Age: As old as my tongue and a little older than my teeth. Can't ask a Lady her age! (celebrated my 21st twice but not 3 times). After a long day at work its nice to stop for a well earned bit of R & R. ‘Work hard, play hard’ that’s my motto. My favourite drink is Gin but the Halfway house also does a nice drop of cider and I also enjoy a glass of good quality wine when dining with the family. You can have cider and gin together which we call a Doggy Snout or Dogs Nose but that’s not my cup if tea. I have been coming to the Halfway House for as long as I can remember… My earliest recollection is coming here with my Gramps to meet his cronies. Gramp was a Publican (Licencee for 53 years & we still have the Visitors books dating back to1906 when he first moved into a Pub with his Parents at the ripe old age of 6) and Farmer as well as running a Coach Company. When he wasn't too busy he'd take me with him when he did a bit of 'Moling' that's 'sussing out the opposition.' We'd go all over the place. We'd go and Scrutinise one Farmers Sheep and another’s Corn then go back to The Pub, my treat was a Vimto and I'd listen to them discussing which farmer had the best crop etc. I must have only been 4 or 5 if that. In those days my favourite meal as a little girl was Lambs Tails, Roasted. Beautiful!! After they agreed on who had the best crop or worst flock, they'd start their Dominoes. I used to play Noughts & crosses with whoever would put up with me. As I got a little older I too played Dommies, must have been 6 or 7 by then. My favourite was 3s & 5s, I knew I'd got the hang of the game when I beat my Great Uncle Jack! (Nans Brother) I was more than eleven by then. A bit later I'd call in here with my Mum & Step Dad ( We had a Milk round & a Fruit 'n' Veg round and I was their 'runner' delivering the 'Pintas') for a refreshing drink if we had time. I have so many lovely memories, you would have to come and stay for at least a week to hear them all! Nowadays I play Dominoes with MY Grandchildren, Grandson Dan has a very sneaky way of always managing to get the double-six (Probably just like me at his age). Jemma however, doesn't cheat at all? This pub is supposed to be haunted, I’ve never seen a ghost but I know a man who has. Sudeley Castle is only 5 miles away and one of Henry VIII wives lived there (Queen Catherine Parr) and is buried there in a Tomb in the Castle grounds. My husband used to deliver newspapers around that area as a boy on his bicycle, he was about 13 at the time and was going from Sudeley along the Rushleys back to Winchcombe. A figure of a lady in full length ‘Old Fashioned Attire’ came straight through the hedge and stopped by the side of the road just as he got to that particular spot!! He peddled straight past as fast as he could and never told a soul. For years and years not even his Mum & Dad. We were discussing Ghosts one night and he told me all that. We'd been married 5 or 6 years by that time. It must have scared him silly.

Halfway House
The Halfway House is a 17th Century Inn, situated in the peaceful hamlet of Kineton. Up until 1975 it was owned by Corpus Christi College of Oxford, when The Donnington Brewery, based near Stow-on-the-Wold, purchased the Inn after renting it for a number of years. From the Inn you can see the Heart of the Cotswold Valleys. Whether walking, cycling or by motor car the Inn is an ideal location from which to visit many of the Cotswolds attractions or just to view the idyllic scenery. It is of particular interest to walkers on the Donnington Way, which is a 62 mile walk which links the Donnington Pubs together and takes in some of Britain's most beautiful countryside. Most ramblers probably only complete a short stretch at a time however!
