Sparky the beer loving Shetland pony joins the Adopt a Local Campaign. Sparky a tiny Shetland Pony has developed a taste for real ale. His owner John Baldwin discovered his drinking habits by accident one afternoon when Sparky decided to neck the remainders of a customer's PINT. Since then Sparky has leapt to fame appearing on National and International TV News and Kids programmes. It only seemed fair that he should be allowed to join the Adopt a Local campaign. The adoption money goes towards his expensive pastime |

Adopt a Local receives over 22,000 unique visitors
its first month thanks to International publicity.

The Adopt a Local campaign has really
started with a bang. Managing Director Jon Ellard spent
three nights sleeping on his office floor following
early morning interviews with Australian Radio stations
including Radio Canberra and ABC Australia. In total
33 radio interviews were undertaken with numerous press
interviews coinciding. During the first three weeks
the web site had visitors from the USA, Canada, Australia,
Germany, Switzerland and Denmark etc.
Pubs2000 would like to thank all the media organisations
who have given the campaign such a publicised and high
profile start.
John Baldwin from the Globe
Inn says ‘I’m thrilled to
bits with the campaign so far. The very next day we
had new customers coming in saying that they had heard
about the Adopt a Local campaign and subsequently
decided to come in for a drink and bite to eat’.
When asked to comment about what effect the campaign
had had on trade John Baldwin said ‘business
is picking up and we have had our busiest month of
the year this is largely down to the campaign and
of course our famous shetland pony 'Sparky’.
Pubs2000’s other clients have also been making
similar comments and observations.

Trish Moore from the
Halfway House
After a long day at work it’s nice to stop
for a well earned bit of R & R. ‘Work
hard, play hard’ that’s my motto. My
favourite drink is Gin but the Halfway house also
does a nice drop of cider and I also enjoy a glass
of good quality wine when dining with the family.
You can have cider and gin together which the locals
call Doggy Snout or Dog’s Nose but that’s
not my cup of tea.
Mother to my sons, friends and Priscilla (that’s
another story). I am as old as my tongue and a little
older than my teeth. Can’t ask a lady her
age – celebrates her 21st twice but not 3
times. I have been coming to the Halfway House for
as long as I can remember… My earliest recollection
is coming here with my Gramps to meet his cronies.

International Adopt a Local
|
| We have had hundreds of e-mails suggesting
brilliant pubs all over the world. We have also received
numerous e-mails suggesting local drinkers from around
the world. In the next few months Pubs2000 will be developing
the Adopt a Local to include Pubs from around the World
and their Locals. We will also be setting up twinning
relationships between Gloucestershire pubs and inns with
International venues and locations. |
Here are some of the suggested pubs and their locals
so far:
|
Pub Name:
The Skip Inn (DK's)
Locals Name: Ernie "The Moggy"
Mogford
Location: Persian Gulf, Middle
East
Reason why they should be adopted: To ease him towards
a happy retirement and to save a lot of travel time
that could be spent supping
|
Pub Name: Hogs Head
Locals Name: Ian Beale
Location: Newhall Street, Birmingham
UK
Reason why they should be adopted: He holds court
for 3 hours every weekday during his lunch break.
His beloved Boddingtons cask ale has been replaced
by Boddingtons Smooth Pour and so is rather sad
at the moment. Noted for saying, "What's this
nonsense"
|
Pub Name: Big Ben
Pub
Locals Name: Eggi
Location: Niederdorfstr. 52, CH-8001
Zurich, Switzerland
Reason why they should be adopted: Because he drink
every day a lot of beer and he is always in the
pub!
|
Pub Name: Balmoral Bar
Locals Name: Michael Gray
Location: Dalry Road, Edinburgh
UK
Reason why they should be adopted: Always got a
story to tell about tourist sights in Edinburgh,
especially the full history of the Scots Monument.
Great company on a cold evening. Will help you get
home if incapable.
|
Pub Name: Tynecastle Arms
Locals Name: Michael Gray
Location: McLeod Street, Edinburgh EH11
UK
Reason why they should be adopted: For the past
year I've been developing a series of interviews,
photos and recommendations with the locals and bar
staff at the pub. It's been my local for years and
I've been getting good feedback about Tynie Talk
