The Belfry is nestled on the edge of the forest and originates from early mining days. It was then known as The George and was used by local people after a hard nights work down the mines; in fact the pub was frequently full at 4.00am in the morning!
The George, like many mining businesses in the forest fell on hard times and was closed by its Brewery owner. It was purchased in 1991 by the Bell family who with the help of local people have created The Belfry.

The Royal Forest of Dean is one of the few surviving Royal hunting forests, which still boasts a herd of wild deer.

The Belfry Hotel has a bar menu available that encorporates carefully selected variations of traditional pub meals, snacks and something from the grill.
Opening hours for the Belfry Hotel Restaurant are:
- Monday - Friday 12pm - 2:30pm and 5:30pm-9:30pm
- Saturdays (all day) 12pm - 9.30pm
- Sundays Cavery lunch 12pm - 5pm
We also have thoughtfully displayed A'la Carte menus in both the bar and restaurant, which included dishes such as Tenderloin of Pork, Gressingham Duck and Beef Stroganoff. The A'la Carte menu meals are all freshly prepared by our in-house chef and changed daily according to what is in season. These meals are all home cooked and therefore take a bit longer to prepare than our standard bar menu meals.
We also house a delicious range of sandwiches, baguettes, ciabattas and salads on our blackboards.

Senior Citizens Lunch
On Wednesdays we provide a 'Senior Citizens Lunch', prices start at £2.95, desserts from £1.50 and coffee 90p. Lunch starts at 12:30pm - 2:30pm
. Booking is essential!!
The Sunday Carvery Lunch
The Carvery consists of turkey, roast beef, roast pork and roast lamb with all the trimmings.
The Carvery Lunch costs £6.50 for an adult main course, with a starter at £2.25 and a dessert at £2.50.
Children's Carvery Lunches are £3.95 with a dessert at £1.95.
- We have meals available in the Belfry Bar on sunday nights from 5:30pm, but our restaurant is closed in the evening.
