Army man Mike ‘gets some inn’
at the Fox
|
|
Mike East has left
the Army to take up a new posting as landlord
of the village pub at picturesque Broadwell, near
Stow-on-the-Wold.
He and his wife Carol have taken over The Fox
Inn, situated on the village green, following
the retirement of the previous landlord and landlady,
Charles and Helen Knowles. |
|
| Born at nearby Guiting Power, Mr East joined
the Army in 1977 and served all over the world before
completing his 25-year military career as regimental catering
officer at South Cerney’s Duke of Gloucester Barracks.
He was made a Member of the British Empire (MBE) last
year for services to Army catering.
Mr east also cooked for five times gold medallist Steve
Redgrave, along with other members of the British rowing
team at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

Mrs East has taught children with
special needs and has worked in many pubs for
other people.
Deciding they would like to run their own pub
when Mr East was demobbed, they made inquiries
with Donnington Brewery, which eventually offered
them the Fox Inn.
Mr East said “We’re not going to
change the Fox very much at all because it was
very successful the way it was.”
They have two children; Abigail, 15 and Matthew,
11.
