Attractions
For visitors to the area, the pub is ideally located for so many attractions. On the doorstep is the market town of Nailsworth with its local independent shops, the National Trust properties, Minchinhampton Common, Rodborough Common, Woodchester Mansion and viewpoint Coaley Peak. Nearby the Leisure Centre, outdoor swimming pool and museum are located in Stratford Park at Stroud.

The Jovial Forester, the ‘local’ pub for ‘locals’ and ‘visitors’ alike, is an ideal place for lunch or to wind down at the end of the day.

The History behind Nailsworth
Though inhabited since Saxon times and important in the 18th and 17th centuries for its cloth mills, Nailsworth has only had a separate civic identity since 1894, when it became an urban district. The turnpike roads and the railway brought new prosperity to Nailsworth, a pleasant community and Shopping Centre and a small town of unexpected charm for those who turn off the busy Stroud-Bath road. Nailsworth itself lies in the valley but there are pleasant hamlets above it, not least Forest Green, Newmarket, Shortwood, Watledge and Windsoredge. The poet W.H. Davies, of Super-Tramp fame, lived his last years in Watledge.

Many of the former Mill buildings have been converted for use by modern industry. Of particular interest is Egypt Mill - even the name is full of intrigue. It is said that before the Mill was first built during the reign of Edward III, the 'travelling people from Egypt', (i.e. gypsies) laden with goods and chattels, camped on the Mill site hence the title reaches far back in time.
