To launch this new section we undertook a review of The Residence's new menu that was launched earlier this year.

My partner and I had a great time from the moment we set foot through the glass doors to finishing our last spoon of dessert. The bar is fabulous and situated in the bustling Montpellier part of Cheltenham famous for its up market shops and café style bars and pubs.

We could have spent the afternoon just drinking and watching the many shoppers and tourists walk by but we had to get onto the more serious job of ordering. No sooner had we sat down before a female member of staff greeted us with a warm and genuine welcome and took our drinks order. I opted for a pint of Stella whilst my companion had a Gin & Tonic. It was nice to see my lager arrive perfectly chilled and the Gin & Tonic served with a wedge of lime rather than usual lemon.

With soothing music in the background, our shoulders had already dropped a mile after particularly stressful working mornings, and we sat and drank in the relaxing atmosphere in the bar which, I have to add, has the most comfortable chairs.

To start we had an 'Oriental Sharer' comprising of King Prawns, Chilli Rolls, Vegetable Parcels and much much more. Priced at £7.95 it was filling but also surprisingly good value. My companion who loves variety enjoyed this starter immensely and for anyone looking to impress their partner it's an absolute winner.

I continued the oriental theme for my main course, deciding upon 'The Hot Thai Beef Noodle Bowl'. The beef was tender with surprising flavours and perfect noodles. My companion chose to sample the 'The Olde English Pork Sausages', which pleased me greatly as I new she would not be able to finish it all and I would have to help out. The mash was expertly prepared with the gravy complimenting the taste of the pork sausages.

With my main priced at £7.50 and my companions at £7.25 our lunch tim e treat was 'Not' costing an arm and leg and seemed to go against the grain of Cheltenham food prices. We ordered a bottle of 'KWV Chenin Blanc' (South African) to go with our main courses and thankfully we are both Dry White Wine fans. The Residence has a popular promotion on a variety of wines with our bottle costing only £8.40.
