CHELTENHAM DANCES TO THE LATINO BEAT

A Cheltenham bar will be offering customers toe-tapping Cuban beats straight off the streets of Havana when it plays host to London’s hottest band, Coco Xpress.

The lively four-piece -- who specialise in salsa, meringue, bugaloo, bomba and lambada -- will be performing at Que Pasa in Clarence Street this Sunday (July 2).

The concert is part of a nationwide live music tour being organised by Que Pasa in association with Malibu.

Said Ben Jelley, manager at Que Pasa in Cheltenham: “This is the first time we have hosted a live music tour so we’re all very excited. Coco Xpress is a world-renowned band who guaranteed an excellent night’s entertainment for top dancers and left-footed tropical party-goers alike. We’re delighted to be showcasing them here in Cheltenham.”

The Coco Xpress night at Que Pasa in Cheltenham will start at 8pm.

COCKTAIL KING BEN
WINS TRIP TO POLAND

Cheltenham bar manager Ben Jelley is about to set off on a flying visit to Poland … courtesy of bar chain Que Pasa.

Ben, who manages Que Pasa in Clarence Street, has been awarded an all-expenses paid trip to the Wyborowa Vodka Distillery near Warsaw.

The prize follows an in-house competition across the 17-strong bar chain to see which venue could generate the biggest increase in cocktail sales.

Said Que Pasa area manager Paul Wright: “Ben has something a reputation in the company when it comes to cocktails. In 2003, as assistant manager at our Ilford venue, he invented Jelley Baby, a blend of Vodka, Malibu, Blue Curacao, Archers, Granadine, pineapple juice and a hint of cream.

“The cocktail was so popular it made it on to our house list and became one of our top three best sellers … so it didn’t surprise anyone that Ben rose to the challenge once again!”

The Wyborowa distillery has been making vodka on its estate in the village of Turew for nearly 200 years. Ben will fly out to visit the distillery on 29 March.

Que Pasa, which is due to open its 18th bar in Stourbridge on March 10, is one of six finalists nominated for the Retail Brand of Year category in the 2006 Publican Awards. The winners will be announced at a glittering celebration at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Tuesday March 21.

QUE PASA LAUNCHES POLECATS TM III

TOP CAT JENNA IS A MINI WINNER!

Christmas came early for bridal consultant Jenna Liney when she won a brand new BMW Mini worth over £10,000 in the Que Pasa  PoleCats™ III competition.

The 20-year-old who lives in Stoney Stanton, Leicestershire, was crowned PoleCat™ 2005 in the grand final at Que Pasa, Cheltenham on Thursday night.

She beat tough competition from eight other Que Pasa bar finalists – including Cheltenham’s own Angela Lambert, who finished runner up on the night.

Said Jenna: “I still can’t believe I’ve won. It won’t seem real until I actually pick up the car later this week but it couldn’t have come at a better time … I’ve just had a bump in my own car and so this is a dream come true.”

PoleCats™, which is sponsored by drinks firm Dooley’s, was originally launched by Que Pasa in 2003.

Said QP operations director Tim Bird: “Whenever we create a new Que Pasa a pole is part of the refurbishment and they have proved so popular with our customers that the PoleCatsTM competition seemed a fun idea.

“As the Que Pasa brand has grown so too has the competition. This year PoleCats™ was staged in nine of our venues and the response has been excellent … especially with such a big top prize on offer.

“The final was very exciting. We had a full house and the atmosphere was electric. The quality of dancing was exceptional and our congratulations go to Jenna for taking the title.”
